Yashasvi Jaiswal Player Profile

Since his Under-19 days, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been known for his fearless and strong batting style, combined with improving consistency. This is clear from his performances in both the IPL and domestic cricket for Mumbai in the early 2020s.

At just 12 years old, Jaiswal moved from a small village in Uttar Pradesh to Mumbai to pursue cricket. Life was tough—he slept in tents and sold pani puri to make pocket money. Two years later, his talent was noticed by a local coach named Jwala Singh at Azad Maidan, who began mentoring him and helped his career take shape.

In October 2019, during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is a 50-over domestic competition, Jaiswal scored heavily for Mumbai with innings of 113, 22, 122, 203, and an unbeaten 60. His run of good form ended only when rain stopped Mumbai’s progress in the tournament. The following year, he played a key role for India in the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, earning the Player of the Tournament award as India finished runners-up. This success led to a big IPL contract, with Rajasthan Royals signing him for Rs 2.4 crore (approximately 338,000 US dollars).

Moving from dominating domestic and Under-19 bowling attacks to IPL challenges was not easy for Jaiswal. However, he worked hard, especially during the Royals academy training sessions after COVID restrictions eased, which helped him gain confidence and improve his technique. In his first full Ranji Trophy season (2021-22), he scored three hundreds in a row and helped Mumbai reach the final.

At Rajasthan Royals, where he was kept for the 2022 IPL season, Jaiswal developed a powerful opening partnership with Jos Buttler. In 2023, he set a new IPL record by scoring the fastest fifty ever, reaching the milestone in only 13 balls.

Jaiswal’s 2023 season was full of achievements. He became Rajasthan Royals’ youngest centurion at 21 years and 123 days old, scoring 124 runs against Mumbai Indians. That innings matched the highest individual score in Royals’ history and set the record for the highest IPL score by an uncapped player. After scoring 625 runs in 2023, Jaiswal continued his good form by adding 435 runs in 2024. Rajasthan Royals retained him ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction, buying him for INR 18 crore.
