India | Bowler
Wife - Sanjana Ganesan, Father - Jasbir Singh, Mother - Daljit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah is one of India’s most talented fast bowlers and has played a major part in India becoming a strong Test team since the late 2010s. He has a unique bowling style and can make the ball move in ways few others can, similar to the great Wasim Akram. Early in his career, Bumrah was known for his deadly yorkers, learning from his Mumbai Indians teammate Lasith Malinga. Over time, he mastered both conventional and reverse swing and developed many tricks like cutting and dipping the ball.
Bumrah made his international debut in 2016 during a white-ball series in Australia after strong domestic performances for Gujarat. He quickly became India’s top wicket-taker in T20Is on that tour. Two years later, he debuted in Test cricket in South Africa and soon took 5 wickets in a match, helping India win the series. In 2018, Bumrah played a key role in India’s historic Test series win in Australia by taking 9 wickets in one match.
Between 2017 and 2018, Bumrah took about 50 wickets in seven consecutive ODI series, all won by India. He continued to dominate in different matches, including his brilliant performances against the West Indies and England, often leading India to victory. In 2024, despite getting injured, he took 32 wickets at a very low average in a Test series against Australia and was a key player in India’s T20 World Cup win.
Bumrah has been very successful in all formats of cricket, especially in the IPL with Mumbai Indians. He joined Mumbai Indians in 2013 as a young uncapped player and grew to become their bowling leader. He is known for his fast bowling, accurate yorkers, and many variations. He helped Mumbai Indians win five IPL titles and was their top wicket-taker in three of those championship seasons.
