India Gears Up for Women’s ODI World Cup with Australia Series, India A to Face Australia A and South Africa A
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled a packed schedule for the Indian women’s team and India A, with a three-match ODI series against Australia and back-to-back India A series against Australia A and South Africa A later this year, as announced on Thursday.
The Indian women’s team will face defending champions Australia in a crucial three-match ODI series in mid-September, serving as vital preparation for the Women’s ODI World Cup, hosted by India starting September 29, 2025. The matches are set for September 14, 17, and 20 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk). India, Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka have secured direct entry to the World Cup, while Bangladesh and Pakistan qualified through a recent event in Pakistan. Notably, Pakistan’s World Cup matches are likely to be held at a neutral venue, following the BCCI-PCB agreement that saw India’s Champions Trophy matches, including against Pakistan, played in Dubai earlier this year.
Meanwhile, India A, currently in England for two four-day matches against England Lions and a warm-up against the main Indian Test team ahead of the five-match Test series, will return for a busy home schedule. Australia A will tour first, playing two four-day matches on September 16 and 23 in Lucknow, followed by three one-dayers on September 30, October 3, and October 5 in Kanpur. South Africa A will follow, with two four-day matches on November 2 and 9, and three one-dayers on November 13, 16, and 19, all in Bengaluru. The four-day matches against South Africa A will mark the first competitive fixtures at the BCCI’s new Centre of Excellence, formerly the National Cricket Academy.
This robust schedule underscores India’s commitment to preparing for the World Cup while nurturing talent through India A’s engagements, setting the stage for an exciting second half of 2025.
