Earthquake Briefly Halts Play During Bangladesh vs Ireland Test in Mirpur

Play in the second Test between Bangladesh and Ireland was unexpectedly interrupted on Day 3 after a 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Dhaka region, sending players and spectators into a momentary state of alarm.

The tremor hit the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur during the 56th over of Ireland’s first innings. The unexpected event caused an immediate stoppage in proceedings, with players swiftly moving away from the pitch and towards the boundary area as a precautionary measure.

The interruption lasted for approximately three to four minutes, with visible concern among those present in the stadium. However, order was quickly restored, and play resumed without further disruption.

At the time of the incident, Ireland had reached 233 for 7 in 78 overs, still trailing Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 476 by 243 runs. The match continued following the brief pause, with no reports of damage or injury at the venue.
