Bangladesh Interim Government Bans Broadcast of IPL 2026

Bangladesh govt bans IPL 2026 broadcast

In a significant move, the Bangladesh Interim Government has issued a directive suspending all broadcasts and telecasts of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) within the country. The ban, which covers television, radio, digital platforms, and all other media, will remain in effect until further notice.

According to an official notification, the decision was taken due to concerns over “various objectionable and culturally inappropriate advertisements and contents” aired during previous IPL broadcasts. The government stated that such content is “inconsistent with the social values, ethics, and interests of Bangladesh.”

The notification further cites “overall national interest, social values, and public sentiment” as the basis for the suspension. The directive has been issued under the existing broadcasting laws and regulations of Bangladesh, and all relevant authorities and broadcasting organizations have been instructed to comply strictly.

The IPL 2025 season is scheduled to commence on March 26. This ban will prevent fans in Bangladesh from accessing the tournament through official broadcast channels, marking a notable development in the sporting and media landscape between the two neighboring nations.
