The Wizard’s Hat is one of the strongest items added to Megabonk in the 2025 Christmas update. If you want to push builds past normal limits, this item matters a lot. Unlocking it is not quick, but every step is clear once you know what to do.
This guide explains exactly how you unlock the Wizard’s Hat and what you must finish before it becomes available.
What You Need Before Starting
You cannot instantly get the Wizard’s Hat. The conditions for the game are very precise.
The first thing to do is to make Vlad a playable character.
The second thing to do is to unlock the Pot (stainless steel) item.
If one of these two is not met, the Wizard’s Hat quest will not be activated.
How to Unlock Vlad
Vlad is a combination of the story line and a skill quest.
You will have to finish the Desert map Tier 2. In order to get to Tier 2, you have to play through the Desert Tier 1 and go through the portal at the end. In Tier 2, you will be fighting Anubruh who is a more powerful version of Lil’ Anubis. Defeating him will fulfill the map requirement.
How to Unlock the Pot (Stainless Steel)
The Pot is one of the hardest items to unlock in Megabonk.
You must open every chest and every pot inside the first crypt on the Graveyard map. This all happens before or just after Spooky Steve appears. There is a timer, and once it ends, Spooky Steve spawns and can kill you almost instantly.
Earlier versions forced you to use a specific character. Now, you can use any character, but you still only get a few seconds once Spooky Steve shows up.
To make this easier, use a fast character. Monke works best because wall climbing helps you reach everything quickly. You also need to move fast and avoid falling, since one mistake can end the run.
Before trying seriously, it helps to replay the crypt a few times. The rooms change layout, so learning the structure saves time.
Once you finish the challenge, you must buy the Pot for 37 Silver from the unlock menu. After that, it can appear during runs unless you toggle it off.
How to Unlock the Wizard’s Hat
Once Vlad and the Pot are both unlocked, the final step becomes available.
You must play as Vlad, obtain the Pot (stainless steel) during the run, and then upgrade any weapon past level 40. This means reaching level 41 or higher on a weapon.
This is difficult because XP spreads across many upgrades. To make it easier, reduce the number of weapons you use and focus XP on one. Longer tiers give you more time, which also helps.
When you succeed, the Wizard’s Hat becomes purchasable from the unlock menu
