Unlocking Moonlit Forest and Harvesting Oilstone

Oilstone is located beyond the main gate inside Moonlit Forest. This area becomes accessible during Zephyria’s Explorer quest line. You must reach the Intermediate Explorer stage before the path fully opens.
The process starts with crafting weapons using your Worktable. During the quest you will be asked to inspect the large gate in the forest after collecting part of the ruin key near the river by the elevator in Mural Valley. Once the gate unlocks, a turtle boss named Glintortle blocks further progress. You must win against it if you want to move deeper into the forest and reach the Harvest Yard camp area and Grain Heaven.
Bring enough arrows. The boss has high health, and running out of ammunition will force you to retreat. After winning the fight, you will see that the path ahead is still blocked by vines. Use Fire Arrows to burn these vines and clear the route.
This will let you access the deeper sections of Moonlit Forest, including the Harvest Yard camp area and Grain Haven. The Oilstone nodes will begin to appear in these deeper sections. You may be wondering how to spot them. Well, the Oilstone nodes in Starsand Island have a distinct bright red-orange color. You cannot mine them with a low-level tool. A high-tier pickaxe tool like the Impact Hammer is required to harvest them.
If you do not already have one, craft the Impact Hammer before entering into the forest. Once equipped, approach an oilstone node and use your normal strike to harvest it.

Although direct mining is the most reliable method to get Oilstone in Starsand Island, but there are a few limited alternatives. For example, if you romance certain NPCs, they can give you Oilstone as a gift, but the chance is very low. If you reach Expert Crafter level, Zerine’s General Store can stock a small quantity of this resource that you can collect once per day. If you are lucky enough then you can process uncommon Ore Chunks in the Ore Analyzer as it gives a bare minimum chance to receive some Oilstone through this method, but the quantity will always be limited.
