Fossilized Lightning is one of the rarest materials added to ARC Raiders. You cannot loot it from containers, enemies, or fixed locations. It only appears under very specific conditions, which makes many players miss it even after several raids.
This guide explains exactly how Fossilized Lightning spawns, how to spot it safely, and what you should do after finding it.
How to Find Fossilized Lightning in ARC Raiders
What is Fossilized Lightning
Fossilized Lightning is a material of Epic-rarity nature. The Cold Snap update introduced it, and it is only associated with storm-based gameplay.
It is not possible to craft, buy from traders, or recycle other items to get it. The only one way to obtain it is by being in the right weather event and reacting fast.
The Only Condition Where It Spawns
Fossilized Lightning can only be obtained during raids where the Electromagnetic Storm modifier is active. If the raid does not have this storm, the item will not spawn at all, irrespective of which map you play and how long you stay alive.
The storm is not supported on all maps, so check the raid modifiers before deploying. The storm lasts just over an hour in real time, which usually gives you two to three raid attempts while it is still active.
How the Item Actually Appears
This material does not spawn as normal loot. Instead, it has a small chance to appear after a lightning bolt strikes the ground.
Before a strike hits, you will see blue sparks and electrical effects on the ground. You get roughly two to three seconds before the lightning lands. The strike deals heavy damage and can drain your shield completely, so do not stand inside the impact zone.
If the game rolls a successful spawn, Fossilized Lightning appears at the exact center of the lightning impact. It looks like a twisted, rock-like formation rising from the ground. Most lightning strikes will leave nothing behind, so do not expect a drop every time.
Best Way to Look for It Safely
Watch for lightning indicators while moving through open areas for the safest approach. After seeing sparks form, return to cover, wait for the lightning to strike, and go back to the impact point to look for a spawn.
Small overhangs and broken structures work well. To attract lightning, you can remain near open ground and then duck into cover before the lightning bolt strikes. This lets you without losing health or shields.
However, you should stay away from hard-farming Fossilized Lightning because the drop rate for this item is very low and even with dozens of lightning strikes, you will likely only get a single item.
What to Do After You Find Fossilized Lightning in ARC Raiders
Fossilized Lightning has no use in crafting or for a blueprint at the moment, which leaves you with two practical choices.
You could sell the item for a decent amount of credits if you need quick money for gear, ammo, or crafting upgrades. The other option is recycling the item to receive the valuable crafting resource Explosive Compounds.
Should you wish to reset progress or engage in initial Expeditions, it is typically best to sell it. If you are not resetting progress, it might be wise to hold on to one or two in case future updates to the game bestow it a new function.
Is It Worth Farming Right Now
Right now, Fossilized Lightning is more of a bonus find than a target resource. You should treat it as something you collect naturally while playing storm raids, not something you build an entire run around. If future updates add recipes or events that require it, having a few saved could pay off later.
