What the Matriarch Is
The Matriarch is a mysterious event-based ARC enemy that surfaces occasionally in the game. This powerful creature can only be seen under a certain condition that is set on the map. Whenever it comes out of the map, it becomes a test of endurance instead of a speedy fight.
The Matriarch’s body is entirely covered with a very thick armor that comes in several parts such as the legs, body, and head. In order for you to inflict some serious damage on it, these plates must be broken first.
It has the capability of attacking from afar and pressuring players all the time, which makes the open spots very dangerous.
Where to Find the Matriarch
The Matriarch is not present in the game map unless the dynamic event is active. During the event, it can materialize in several predetermined places. The places are the Dam Battlegrounds, the Blue Gate, and the Spaceport.
At the Dam Battlegrounds, the creature can be seen close to the area of the Water Towers. In the Blue Gate, it shows up south of the is the warehouse complex near the ridgeline. At the Spaceport, it appears between the Rocket Assembly area and the Launch Towers.
Entering a match where the Matriarch is involved will be confirmed by a voice line in the game. Due to its enormous size, it is relatively hard to miss once you get in the vicinity. A good way to spot it is to climb high and do a scan of the area.
Understanding the Matriarch’s Attacks
The Matriarch uses several powerful attacks that force players to stay in cover. One of its main weapons is a barrage of homing missiles. These missiles are fast and hit hard, and staying in the open during this attack usually leads to death.
It also deploys gas mines that activate when players get close. These mines cause coughing, which makes it difficult to aim, heal, or fight back. Another dangerous attack is the flashbang launcher. When the fight begins, it is best to wait if other raiders are already attacking. Let them draw the Matriarch’s attention first. Once it is distracted, focus your fire on the armor plating on its legs. Breaking the leg armor exposes the cores and can cause the Matriarch to fall, giving you a better angle to deal damage.
After the leg armor breaks, the most effective target becomes the head. Once the head plating is destroyed, the exposed core takes heavy damage. This is the best time to attack aggressively, as the Matriarch will lose health much faster.
Heavy weapons are the most effective during this fight. The battle takes time, and you will need a large amount of ammunition. Managing your resources and using cover properly matters more than rushing damage.
Surviving During the Fight
The Matriarch fight often attracts other raiders. Some players will wait nearby and attack once you are weakened. Because of this, it is important to always be ready for player combat during the encounter.
When the Matriarch activates its shield, stop attacking and use the time to heal, recharge shields, reload, and reposition. Wasting ammo during this phase can leave you defenseless later. Keep an eye on newly spawned ARC enemies and deal with them quickly, especially Rocketeers.
Mobility tools are important for reaching high ground and escaping dangerous positions. Planning your escape before the Matriarch goes down can save your run.
Looting and Escaping After the Kill
Once the Matriarch is defeated, it explodes and drops valuable loot across its body parts. One of the most important drops is the Matriarch Reactor, which is used for high-end crafting.
