How To Enter Underground Caves in StarRupture

How To Enter Underground Caves in StarRupture

Underground caves in StarRupture are hidden locations that contain rare resources you cannot find on the surface. The game does not explain how to access them, which makes many players think they are blocked forever. These caves only open under specific conditions, and timing matters more than tools or weapons.

If you understand how the Ruptura event works, you can reliably enter these caves and loot them safely before they close again.

How To Enter Underground Caves in StarRupture

Finding Underground Cave Locations

During your exploration of the planet, you are likely to run into round holes that are completely hidden under thick green vines. These are openings to underground caves. They appear as if they are just some natural liabilites in the environment and initially, one might think of them as such but they cannot be removed even with the strongest means.

The first time you go up to one of these, it will be recorded on your map. At first, it may show as an unidentified marker, but once it is revealed, it shows a cave icon.

These caves can be found on your own while journeying and wandering, but using tools that expose more of the map helps a lot. Fulfilling progression objectives that grant wider map visibility makes spotting caves a walk in the park.

Waiting for the Ruptura Event

The underground caves are opened only after a Ruptura event. Ruptura is a planetary disaster that sends an enormous wave of heat all over the surface, thus, burning up the plants and resetting the resources. This event is a threat to life; therefore, it is a rule that you always stay inside your Habitat when it occurs.

However, a Ruptura event is not a disaster to be controlled but a disaster to be prepared for. If the cave is at a long distance from your base, you may want to establish a small outpost nearby with basic storage and shelter. This would not only save time but also allow you to quickly come into the area once the event finishes.

When the Ruptura warning appears, take refuge and wait. Do not be in a hurry to go out just after the wave has passed. The game will let you know when temperatures are normalising and that is the cue that moving around is okay again.

Going into the Cave After Ruptura

After the environment has cooled down, directly proceed to the underground cave that you had previously scouted. The world will still appear to be dark and burnt, which is a sign that the cave’s entrance is still open.

The vegetation will be cleared, and you will see a straight-down pit that leads to the earth’s core. The duration of this opening is not too long so you have to be quick.

To get down, you can either climb down the dried-up vines that are hanging from the edge, or you could be very careful and drop down making use of your boost to lessen the impact of the fall. The descent is easy but being in a hurry without being controlling might still lead to some injuries.

Once you are in, make it a point to explore quickly because the cave will not stay open for long and will be filled up when the planet starts healing itself.

Cave Exploration and Resource Gathering

Caves under the ground are full of materials that the surface cannot provide consistently for farming. Quartz is frequently found in the form of blue crystal formations buried in the rocks of the cave, and Glow Caps, which are a kind of mushroom that grows in the dark, are also found here, and can be gathered easily by hand.

Generally, caves are small but they can have narrow passages, small ledges, and uneven ground. You might have to crouch to get through the narrowest parts or use your boost to get to the top of the tallest parts.

Sometimes the light is not so good and a flashlight is a useful tool to help you see resources and paths clearer. Also, there are corpses in some caves that can be a source of loots if explored thoroughly, thus making the exploration worth it.

It is best to gather everything you can in one visit. You may not have time to visit multiple caves in a single Ruptura window, depending on how far apart they are. Prioritize the closest cave first and only move to another if you are confident you have enough time.

Exiting the Underground Cave Safely

If the entrance remains open, leaving the cave is simple. Just climb back up using the dried vines and return to the surface. However, if you spend too much time inside, the vines may grow back and block the exit. If this happens, do not panic.

Inside the cave, look for a red, bulb-like growth near the entrance. This is the vine control node. Use your Harvester to attack it. Destroying this node causes the vines to retract and reopen the exit. You will have a short window, roughly twenty seconds, to climb out before the vines close again. Once the opening appears, leave immediately.

Never stay inside a cave if another Ruptura is approaching. Underground caves do not protect you from the event, and getting trapped during one will end your run.

Plan ahead, enter early after Ruptura, loot quickly, and exit before the environment fully recovers. If you follow this pattern, underground caves become one of the most rewarding exploration activities in StarRupture.
