Gearin’ Up is a public event added with the Burning Springs update in Fallout 76. In this event, you help the Beastmaster armor and train a tamed Deathclaw while defending it from waves of enemies.
If you complete the event successfully, you earn Caps, XP, plans, and other useful rewards. You will need to run the event multiple times if you want to unlock everything.
How the Gearin’ Up Event Starts
The Gearin’ Up event is a public event and it is scheduled on the hour to automatically take place. When the notification appears, you should open your map, expand World Activity, and enter the event. The location of the event is Jackson’s Junkyard in the Burning Springs region.
When you get there, you will have to talk to the Beastmaster in order to start the event. The dialogue will trigger the timer, so don’t hesitate to start the event when it becomes available.
Collecting Scrap for the Forge
Your primary task during the event is to find 40 pieces of strong scrap metal. The sources for these pieces will be the scrap barrels dispersed throughout the junkyard. You are given four minutes to get all of them and put them into the forge machine.
The barrels always show up at the same locations. One good method of collecting them is as follows: enter the junkyard and then go on the outer edges in one direction rather than running randomly through the center. Stick to one side and walk the path around, so that you can collect everything without going back.
While the scrap is being collected, the enemies are going to be attacking. It is preferable that a few players concentrate solely on fighting while the others concentrate on collecting scrap.
Waiting and Encouraging the Deathclaw
Once all scrap is deposited, there is a short wait while the forge creates armor for the Deathclaw. During this time, you get an optional objective to emote for the Deathclaw.
You need to perform 20 emotes as a group. This step is optional, but completing it gives bonus XP, so it is worth doing. Multiple players emoting at the same time makes this go faster.
Escorting and Defending the Tamed Deathclaw
After the Deathclaw is armored, it exits its container and begins moving through the junkyard. Your job now is to escort it and keep it alive.
The first wave consists of Rust Raiders attacking for several minutes. Stay close to the Deathclaw and focus on enemies targeting it directly. Healing perks and Friendly Fire effects are very helpful here.
After a short break, Snallygasters appear and attack for another wave. These enemies deal heavy damage, so keep your health up and do not stray too far from the Deathclaw.
Final Fight: Legendary Deathclaws
After another brief pause, the final enemies spawn. Legendary Deathclaws, including a powerful Deathclaw Matriarch, enter the junkyard. These enemies hit hard, but with a full group, they are manageable.
Try to position yourself near the Deathclaw and pull enemy attention away from it. Elevated scrap towers can help you stay alive while still protecting the target. Once the legendary enemies are defeated, the event ends successfully.
Rewards You Can Earn
Completing Gearin’ Up rewards you with Caps, XP, Treasury Notes, repair kits, ammo, healing items, and legendary-related materials. There are also several unique plans tied to this event, including cosmetic items and decorations. Each plan has a similar drop chance, so you will need to repeat the event multiple times to collect them all.
