Call of Duty Warzone Black Ops Royale Brings Back Blackout on March 13

Call of Duty Warzone Black Ops Royale

Blackout is finally making its return, but not as a simple remaster. Activision has officially revealed Black Ops Royale, a brand-new mode coming to Call of Duty: Warzone as part of Season 2 Reloaded.

The purpose of this mode is to take Warzone back to its roots, while adding in some of the new mechanics from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Black Ops Royale launches on March 12 at 9 PM PT and March 13 at 12 AM ET. It will be free for all players.

No Loadouts, No Gulag, Just Survival

Features that Warzone players used to get are removed in Black Ops Royale. You won’t find Custom Loadouts, Buy Stations, Cash Economy, or Gulag in Black Ops Royale. When you drop onto the Avalon map, you will only have a Pistol, Knife, and Wingsuit to start.

There are 100 Players divided into 25 Quads (Squads of 4 Players). Your goal is to loot fast, upgrade smart and outlast everyone in order to win.

Redeployment in Black Ops Royale differs from Warzone’s model. After being eliminated, a player can return to the match via Scavenging a Redeploy Token or capturing a Redeploy Tower. There are no Second Chance Duos. Lives count more, rotations feel slower, and Recon is harder to get.

The Avalon map will be where you fight, but it is not the same Avalon map used in the Endgame. Treyarch has completely redesigned the Waterways and added more Tidal Flats/Area to run around, expanding Ground Movement and Databases, and decreasing areas of high water in the map for a better flowing Battle Royale. The standard gas is replaced by the traditional red Collapse Zone which will force the playing area to shrink as you play.

Weapon Archetypes and Attachment Kits Explained

Gunplay in Black Ops Royale revolves around scavenging and upgrading. Every weapon comes with a fixed Archetype build, such as Recon, Stalker, CQB, or Covert. These themes define how the weapon performs once fully upgraded.

In addition to this, weapons can spawn in different rarities, ranging from Common to Legendary. Players earn attachment kits as they play through matches, and instead of swapping attachments manually, players collect these attachment kits which will increase the rarity of a weapon as well as unlock the next attachment in a weapon’s preset build path.

After a weapon is fully upgraded to Legendary status, there will be five attachments on the weapon along with additional class bonuses that have stacked onto the weapon as a result of upgrades.

Another feature of the game are Exotic weapons, which are extremely rare finds and can be fully upgraded when found, complete with additional perks and benefits of upgraded stats, including some highly coveted items such as the Ray Gun found inside Cradle Breaches.

Cradle Breaches, Perks, and Tactical Gameplay

Cradle Breaches act as high-risk, high-reward zones. When a breach appears, red gas fills an area of Avalon, spawning hallucinated zombie hordes. Players who survive can fight a Mangler boss or unlock a Mystery Box for high-tier loot.

Perks will make their return to the Blackout universe. The perk system will consist of temporary consumables to use during gameplay (2-5 minutes each). Players may hold up to five perks, but they’ll never use them permanently. You must consider the right time to activate a Perk during a match.

Movement in Black Ops Royale will combine both the classic Blackout movement style along with some modern movement mechanics. The added use of Graphical Hooks, physically swimmable waterways, and crossable tidal flats add both verticality and horizontality when trying to get around the map.

Black Ops Royale is not just a new take on Black Ops or a direct clone, but rather a change towards a more stripped-down, survival-based Battle Royale. For those who enjoyed the fast-paced and unpredictable nature of Blackout will eagerly be looking forward to March 13.
