West Indies duo join MI Emirates as wildcards for the ILT20 season 4
The MI Emirates franchise has added two explosive West Indies players to its squad ahead of the International League T20 (ILT20) Season 4, bringing in Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran as wildcards. The announcement adds new excitement to the tournament, as two of West Indies’ greatest T20 players are set to play together once again under the MI banner. In addition, Pooran and Pollard together won the CPL and MLC this year.
Under ILT20 rules, each franchise can select a limited number of wildcard players outside of their retained or drafted squad. These wildcard signings help teams meet specific tactical needs ahead of the tournament.
By picking Pollard and Pooran, MI Emirates have opted for a mix of experienced leadership and aggressive batting. Despite taking on a more guiding role in recent years, Pollard remains a match-winner capable of turning a match around in a matter of overs. Moreover, he has been a central face of the MI family for years, having represented the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and serving as a key strategist for their global franchise.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran, who retired from international cricket at the age of 29, has become one of the most explosive middle-order batsmen in modern T20 cricket. Known for his ability to single-handedly change the momentum, Pooran’s arrival has further strengthened the batting depth of MI Emirates.
As we know, six teams will participate and play a total of 34 matches in the fourth season of the ILT20, which will take place in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah from December 2 to January 4.
Talking about Indian players, a day before the ILT20 season 4 auction, Warriors signed former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik in place of Kusal Mendis. While R Ashwin, the only player with a base price in six figures, went unsold in the first ILT20 player auction held in Dubai on October 1.
