Veteran All-rounder Jess Jonassen Withdraws from WPL 2026 Auction Due to Injury

Jess Jonassen

In a significant development ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction, Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen has officially withdrawn her name from the player pool. The left-arm spinner has pulled out due to an injury, ending her storied association with the Delhi Capitals franchise.

Jonassen was a foundational player for the Capitals, having been part of their squad for all three seasons of the WPL. Her tenure with the team was marked by consistent excellence, though it concluded without the ultimate prize, as Delhi finished as runners-up in each edition.

The 32-year-old was a match-winner for the Capitals, claiming a remarkable five Player-of-the-Match awards. A bargain buy at her base price of INR 50 lakh in the inaugural 2023 auction, she delivered immense value. Jonassen picked up over 10 wickets in each of the first two seasons and nine in the third, while also proving her worth with the bat by scoring 295 runs in 18 innings at a brisk strike-rate of 138.49.

Her withdrawal comes after the Delhi Capitals opted to retain fellow Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland and South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp as their overseas players, alongside Indian stars Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Niki Prasad.

Jonassen was expected to enter the auction with a base price of INR 30 Lakh. Her absence will be felt in the auction dynamics, which will now see marquee names like Alyssa Healy, Deepti Sharma, and Laura Wolvaardt headlining the event.
