Shanaka’s Record-Breaking 39-Ball Blitz Rewrites CPL History
St Kitts: Dasun Shanaka produced one of the most devastating innings in Caribbean Premier League history on September 3, smashing a 39-ball century to power the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to a commanding 137-run victory over the St Lucia Kings.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder’s innings was a masterclass in power-hitting. He reached triple figures in just 39 deliveries, breaking the previous CPL record of 40 balls held jointly by Andre Russell, Tim Seifert and Shimron Hetmyer. His knock of 105 not out came off only 38 balls, featuring eight fours and 12 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 276.31.
Shanaka’s assault propelled the Patriots to 235 for 4 in their 20 overs. The innings also set a new franchise record for the highest individual T20 score and the most runs scored via boundaries in a single innings for the Patriots.
The response from St Lucia Kings was a complete contrast. The Patriots’ bowlers, led by Jeremiah Louis, dismantled the Kings’ batting line-up, bowling them out for just 98. Louis finished with exceptional figures of five wickets, as the Kings fell well short of the target.
The 137-run victory margin underscored the one-sided nature of the contest, with Shanaka’s record-breaking knock proving the decisive factor.
