Rinku Singh's Father Passes Away After Battling Stage Four Cancer

In heartbreaking news for the cricketing world, India cricketer Rinku Singh’s father, Khanchandra Singh, passed away on Friday after a prolonged battle with stage four liver cancer. He was on ventilator support at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida before breathing his last, leaving the family in deep grief.

Khanchandra Singh was not just a father, he was the backbone of Rinku’s cricketing dream. Despite working as an LPG cylinder delivery man in Aligarh, he never let financial struggles come in the way of his son’s aspirations. Even after Rinku became an international cricketer and earned recognition in the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders, Khanchandra continued his job, delivering cylinders across the city.

In a heartfelt interview last year, Rinku had spoken about his father’s dedication:

“I told my father to relax now as we have enough for him not to haul cylinders, but he still does it and loves his job. I understand his part also because he will get bored if he sits at home. If someone has worked all his life, it is difficult to tell him to stop unless he wants to.”

These words now carry even more weight. They reflect a son’s love, a father’s pride, and a bond built on sacrifice and mutual respect.

Rinku Singh is currently part of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. As his father’s health worsened, he left the team to be with him before the crucial India vs Zimbabwe match. He rejoined the squad on the eve of the game but was not included in the playing XI, with India opting for Sanju Samson instead.

Now, following his father’s passing, Rinku has once again left the team to perform the final rites and be with his family during this devastating time. There is no confirmed timeline for his return to the squad, as the team management’s priority is to support him through his grief.

Team India Stands With Rinku

The entire Indian cricket team and support staff have rallied around Rinku Singh in his moment of loss. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and team management have offered full support to the player, ensuring he has all the time and space he needs to be with his family.

Cricket, at the end of the day, is just a game. Family comes first. And in this difficult moment, the cricketing fraternity has shown exactly why it’s called a family.

A Story of Struggle and Success

Khanchandra Singh’s story is one of quiet heroism. He was a man who worked tirelessly, often under harsh conditions, to ensure his son could chase a dream that seemed impossible for a boy from Aligarh.

Rinku’s journey from delivering cylinders alongside his father to hitting five sixes in an IPL over and wearing the Indian jersey is the stuff of fairy tales. But behind every fairy tale is a parent’s sacrifice. Khanchandra lived to see his son become a star, and that itself is a small mercy in this tragedy.
