Jemimah Rodrigues to Miss Remainder of WBBL 2025 Season
Indian batting star Jemimah Rodrigues will not be returning to the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for the remainder of the 2025 season. The decision comes after her franchise, the Brisbane Heat, granted her request to remain in India due to personal commitments.
Rodrigues had initially flown home after the Heat’s game against the Hobart Hurricanes as part of a pre-arranged plan. It has now been confirmed that she will stay back to support her national teammate and close friend, Smriti Mandhana, during a difficult time for Mandhana’s family.
In her brief three-match stint this season, the 25-year-old World Cup winner scored 37 runs. The Brisbane Heat CEO, Terry Svenson, expressed the club’s full support for Rodrigues’s decision.
“It has obviously been a challenging time for Jemi, so while it is unfortunate that she will take no further part in the WBBL, we were more than willing to agree to her request to remain in India,” Svenson said. “The Heat club obviously wish her and Smriti Mandhana’s family all the best for the future.”
Svenson also added that Rodrigues has been in touch with the team, expressing her disappointment at not returning and her appreciation for the club and fans. The Brisbane Heat, who drafted Rodrigues as their number one pick, have had a tough season, losing all six of their matches so far.
