India’s Test Return to Sri Lanka After 9 Years: First Match in Galle on August 15

Indian cricket fans, mark your calendars. The Test team is heading to Sri Lanka after nearly a decade.

Shubman Gill and his men will play two Tests on the island nation. The first match is set to begin on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium. It will run until August 19. The second Test will likely start on August 23 at the SSC Ground in Colombo.

India last played a Test series in Sri Lanka in 2017. That was when Virat Kohli was captain. India won both matches back then with a clean sweep. Now, after nine long years, the team returns. Fans in Galle will finally get to see the men in blue again.

That is not all. The two boards are also talking about adding three T20Is to the tour. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed there is a request for these matches. Sri Lanka Cricket is working on the details.

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) ends on August 9. So the T20Is will likely happen after the Tests. That makes the most sense.

  • First Test: August 15-19, Galle International Stadium
  • Second Test: August 23 onwards (likely at SSC Colombo)
  • Possible T20Is: Three matches, schedule not yet final

Neither board has made an official announcement yet. But the dates are almost locked. Indian fans can start planning their trip or just get ready to cheer from home.

After nine years, the Test team is coming back to Sri Lanka. And Galle gets to host the comeback match. That is special.
