India’s Nitish Reddy Likely Out of England Test Series with Knee Injury
Team India has been dealt a major blow ahead of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, as rising all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is likely to miss the remainder of the series due to a serious knee injury.
Reddy, who made a significant impact in the second and third Tests – notably taking six wickets and scoring a valuable 43 runs at Lord’s – reportedly sustained a left knee injury during a mobility training session. The injury occurred when the Indian team was training indoors due to rain in Manchester on Sunday, July 20.
The 22-year-old did not accompany the team for a visit to Manchester United’s Old Trafford football stadium on Sunday, raising early speculation about his fitness. While fellow absentee KL Rahul is said to be fully fit, Reddy remains in doubt. Sources have confirmed to iGK that Reddy underwent scans, and although the full extent of the injury is still awaited, early indications are not promising.
Adding to India’s concerns, pacers Akash Deep – one of the standout bowlers in the second Test at Edgbaston – and Arshdeep Singh are also set to miss the fourth Test due to injuries. Both are confirmed non-starters for the upcoming match taking place from July 23 to 27.
With two crucial Tests remaining in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and several key players sidelined, the Indian team management may turn once again to Shardul Thakur, who was part of the XI in the first Test before Reddy replaced him.
As India aims to clinch the high-stakes series in England, the loss of an in-form all-rounder like Nitish Reddy poses a significant challenge for the squad. A clearer picture of his availability may emerge soon pending scan reports, but current signs suggest India will be without one of their rising stars for the rest of the series.
