ICC to Hear BCCI and PCB Complaints Amid On-Field Tensions
The fierce India-Pakistan cricket rivalry has reached new heights as recent on-field incidents during their Super Four encounter have resulted in official complaints from both boards. The match featured heated verbal exchanges and gestures that transcended sport—prompting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to both approach the International Cricket Council (ICC) with grievances against each other’s players.
The ICC has now set hearings for Thursday, September 25, to address these complaints. At the center of the controversy are political gestures and statements: Pakistan’s Haris Rauf made a “crashing plane” gesture; widely seen as a reference to the latest armed conflict between the two nations- while Pakistan’s PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi posted a video endorsing Rauf’s action. On the other side, the BCCI has objected to both Rauf’s gesture and Sahibzada Farhan’s “bat-as-gun” celebration. Meanwhile, the PCB has complained against India’s Suryakumar Yadav for his post-match remarks expressing solidarity with the Pahalgam terror victims and the Indian Army after the previous fixture.

The proceedings will be overseen by match referees Andy Pycroft (for the BCCI’s case) and Richie Richardson (for the PCB’s complaint against the India captain). These disputes; set against the charged India-Pakistan backdrop and this year’s earlier conflicts, are viewed as clear breaches of the ICC player code of conduct, bringing global attention to the intersection of sport and politics.
With the real possibility of a rematch in the tournament final on September 28, the outcome of the ICC hearings will shape not only disciplinary actions but the tone of one of sport’s most storied rivalries. Indian fans will be following closely, as cricket traditions and national sentiments become intertwined like never before.
