ICC Suspends USA Cricket’s Membership

USA Cricket

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect, citing repeated and continued breaches of obligations as an ICC Member. This unprecedented step follows a year-long review, after USA Cricket failed to establish a robust governance structure, make meaningful progress toward recognition by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and has taken actions that damaged cricket’s reputation in the US and internationally.

Despite losing membership status, USA’s national teams will continue to compete in all ICC events, ensuring their continued participation ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. To guarantee player support and smooth operations, the ICC and its nominated representatives will temporarily administer USA Cricket’s national squads and high-performance programmes.

A Normalisation Committee, overseen by ICC management, will map out reforms required for membership reinstatement, with a strong focus on governance, operational structure, and compliance. The ICC stressed that the suspension is a necessary measure designed to protect the sport’s long-term future in America, prioritising the welfare of the athletes and cricket’s growth on the world stage.

This pivotal moment reaffirms the ICC’s commitment to elevating cricket in the United States while upholding fundamental standards of governance and compliance expected from its members.
