BCCI Announces Major Appointments: Ojha and RP Singh Join Senior Men’s Selection Committee

In a significant administrative overhaul, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a series of key appointments following its Annual General Meeting (AGM), with former India cricketers Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh joining the senior men’s national selection committee.

The restructure also brings a new leadership to the women’s selection committee, with Delhi’s Amita Sharma appointed as the chairperson. She will be joined by Mumbai’s Sulakshana Naik and Hyderabad’s Shravanti Naik as new members. The committee will also include Shyama Dey and Jaya Sharma.

For the junior national teams, S Sharath, who was part of the senior selection panel since 2023, has been named the chairman of the junior selection panel.

The AGM also solidified the board’s top leadership, with Mithun Manhas elected unopposed as the BCCI President. He will be supported by Rajeev Shukla as Vice President and Raghuram Bhat as Treasurer. Devajit Saikia will continue in the role of Secretary, with Prabhtej Bhatia joining as the Joint-Secretary.

In other key committee appointments, Jayesh George was named the Chairperson for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) committee, while Rohan Jaitley will chair the Infrastructure Committee.

In a major policy shift aimed at protecting young players and prioritizing first-class cricket, the BCCI has introduced a new eligibility rule for the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was decided that an U16 player will not be eligible to play in the IPL unless he has first represented his state in at least one Ranji Trophy game. This move is seen as a step to ensure that young talents are nurtured through the traditional domestic circuit before being thrown into the high-pressure T20 league.
