Bangladesh Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz Hospitalised After Nasty Bouncer Blow
It was a moment of genuine worry at the Dhaka stadium. Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz took a blow to the head that left everyone holding their breath.
It was the 34th over of Bangladesh’s chase. Riley Meredith bowled a sharp bouncer. The ball struck Mehidy on the side of his helmet. He went down on his knees immediately. For a few minutes, there was silence in the ground.
The team physio rushed in. Mehidy seemed to struggle. He even appeared to throw up. The Australian team doctor also came to check on him. A stretcher was brought out, ready to take him off the field.
But Mehidy had other plans, he Didn’t Walk Off
After some time, he got back on his feet. The stretcher was sent back. He decided to continue batting. And not just that. He went on to hit a six and sealed Bangladesh’s first-ever ODI series win against Australia.
It was brave. It was also a bit scary.
The team physio confirmed that Mehidy had a concussion. He was sent to the hospital for observation. He will stay there for 24 hours. The good news? He is out of danger.
Vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto attended the post-match ceremony in Mehidy’s place. Pacer Taskin Ahmed later praised his captain’s courage.
“It was incredible of Miraz to bat in that condition,” Taskin said. “I think he took a quick decision that if he walks off, the new batter could be prone to making a mistake in that pressure situation.”
Mehidy put his team first. He took the blow. He stayed at the crease. And he finished the job. Now, everyone is just hoping he recovers quickly and fully.
