Asia Cup 2025 Qualification Update: How Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka Can Reach the Super Four
The Asia Cup 2025 has moved past the group stage and is gearing up for the high-stakes Super Four phase. India has dominated the early proceedings, winning both group matches decisively first beating the UAE by 9 wickets, then overcoming Pakistan by 7 wickets. With these victories, India became the first team to secure a place in the Super Four. Their next match is scheduled for September 21 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Currently, Pakistan is the main contender trying to join India in the Super Four. A win in their upcoming match against the UAE will guarantee Pakistan’s progression with two wins and four points. Although Pakistan lost to India earlier, this match against UAE is crucial for their chances. Despite talk of a possible boycott of the UAE game amid internal disputes, the Salman Agha-led team must win to advance.
Sri Lanka sits atop Group B and is well placed to qualify for the Super Four. They need a victory against Afghanistan in their final group match to confirm their spot. Even if Sri Lanka loses, a narrow defeat could still be enough to keep them in the tournament, depending on margin and net run rate.
Afghanistan’s path is clear-cut: they must beat Sri Lanka in their last group game to progress. A loss would eliminate them from the competition.
Bangladesh’s fate depends entirely on the outcome of the Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan match. If Afghanistan wins, Bangladesh will be knocked out; if Sri Lanka wins, Bangladesh will move on to the Super Four stage.
In terms of elimination, Hong Kong has officially exited the tournament, while Oman and the UAE stand on the brink of elimination, though they still hold a slim mathematical chance to qualify.
With three group matches remaining, the race to the Super Four is heating up. India leads the way having already qualified, while Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh fight to keep their Asia Cup dreams alive. Every game will be crucial in deciding who progresses as the tournament intensifies.
