Pant Soars to 7th, Duckett Breaks Top 10 in ICC Test Batting Rankings

Rishabh Pant

India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has surged to a career-best 7th position in the ICC Test batting rankings, climbing one spot after his remarkable twin centuries (134 and 118) against England at Headingley. Pant became only the second wicketkeeper, after Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower, to score a century in each innings of a Test match. Despite his heroics, India fell short, losing by five wickets as England chased down 371 with ease.

England’s Ben Duckett also made waves, jumping five places to a career-best 8th in the batting rankings. His gritty 62 in the first innings and a match-defining 149 off 170 balls in the fourth innings earned him the Player-of-the-Match award and laid the foundation for England’s thrilling last-day victory.

India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, rose five spots to 20th after a first-innings century, while England’s Ollie Pope climbed three places to 19th following his own century in the same innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal, with a 101 on the opening day, remains India’s highest-ranked batter at 4th. Joe Root continues to dominate the batting chart at 1st, with Harry Brook in 2nd after scoring 99 in the first innings and Root staying unbeaten on 53 in the chase.

In the bowling rankings, Jasprit Bumrah holds the top spot after a five-wicket haul in the first innings at Headingley. Kagiso Rabada and Pat Cummins follow in 2nd and 3rd, respectively. On the all-rounders’ front, Ben Stokes moved up three spots to 5th, while Ravindra Jadeja maintains his position at the top of the rankings.

The Headingley Test showcased exceptional individual performances, shaking up the ICC rankings and setting the stage for an exciting Test cricket season ahead.
