Rassie van der Dussen to Lead New-Look South Africa in T20I Tri-Series

Rassie van der Dussen will take the helm of a reshuffled South African T20I squad for an upcoming tri-series in Harare, facing New Zealand and Zimbabwe. With regular captain Aiden Markram and several senior players rested for workload management, the series, kicking off on July 14 and concluding with a final on July 26, marks a crucial step in South Africa’s preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026.
The squad features a blend of youth and experience, with exciting opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius earning his maiden T20I call-up after topping the SA20 run charts this year. Corbin Bosch, already a familiar face in ODIs and Tests, is set to make his T20I debut, joined by uncapped players Rubin Hermann and Senuran Muthusamy, both of whom impressed in the SA20.
Proteas Men’s head coach Shukri Conrad has named a 14-player squad for the upcoming T20 International (T20I) tri-series against hosts Zimbabwe and New Zealand, set to take place in Harare from 14 – 26 July.

South Africa welcomes back pacers Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee, who have recovered from long-term injuries and are currently competing in the Major League Cricket (MLC). Dewald Brevis also returns to the national side after nearly two years, adding firepower to the batting lineup.
Shukri Conrad, in his first T20I assignment as all-format coach, emphasized the series’ role in building depth. “This T20I tri-series marks the start of our preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup,” Conrad said. “With several senior players rested, it creates space for these players to step in and show what they can offer, and bring them into contention for World Cup selection. Lhuan-dre and Rubin have been rewarded for their outstanding domestic form, and we’re excited to see how they adapt to international cricket. Corbin’s Test and ODI skills will be tested in the T20I arena.”
The tri-series begins with South Africa facing hosts Zimbabwe on July 14, setting the stage for an intense competition.
