Canada Secures Spot in 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup with Dominant Americas Qualifier Run

Canada has clinched their place as the 13th team in the 20-team 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, after a commanding seven-wicket victory over the Bahamas in the Americas regional qualifying finals in Ontario. This triumph marked Canada’s fifth consecutive win in the four-team tournament, which also featured Bermuda and Cayman Islands, ensuring a top-of-the-table finish regardless of the outcomes of the final two matches.
Canada’s latest performance saw them bowl out the Bahamas for a paltry 57 runs in 19.5 overs. Kaleem Sana led the bowling attack with an impressive 3 for 6 in four overs, supported by Ansh Patel’s 2 for 7 and Shivam Sharma’s 3 for 16 in 2.5 overs. The chase was swift, completed in just 5.3 overs, with Dilpreet Bajwa’s unbeaten 36 off 14 balls steering the team to victory.
This will be Canada’s second appearance at the T20 World Cup, following their qualification for the 2024 edition in the West Indies and USA through the same regional route. Competing at home and without the USA, who had already secured their spot, Canada were favorites and lived up to expectations with emphatic wins by margins of 110 runs, 59 runs, ten wickets, 42 runs, and seven wickets.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will feature hosts India and Sri Lanka, alongside Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, USA, and West Indies. Seven more teams will join them, with two each from the Europe and Africa qualifiers and three from the Asia-EAP qualifier.
Canada’s final match of the Americas qualifier is scheduled for Sunday against Bermuda, capping off their dominant campaign.
