Nepal and West Indies Set for Historic T20I Series in Sharjah

In a landmark moment for cricket, Nepal and West Indies are gearing up for their first-ever bilateral T20I series, scheduled for September 27, 28, and 30, 2025, in Sharjah. Hosted by Nepal at a neutral venue, this “historic” series, as described by Cricket West Indies (CWI), marks a significant step in globalizing the sport. The three-match series comes as a crucial lead-up to Nepal’s participation in the men’s T20 World Cup Asia qualifier later this year.

The teams previously clashed in the ODI World Cup qualifier in Harare on June 22, 2023, showcasing competitive spirit. Now, theyβll face off in T20Is, with West Indies, ranked fifth globally in the format, expected to field a strong squad. Nepal, currently 18th in T20I rankings, will look to make a statement on home soil, albeit in Sharjah.
CWI chief executive Chris Dehring emphasized the series’ broader impact: “This series is more than just a set of international matches – it’s a celebration of the game’s expanding global footprint and a testament to what cricket represents: pride, purpose, and the power of unity.” He highlighted West Indies’ commitment as a full-member nation to support associate teams like Nepal, fostering growth at grassroots and international levels.
Currently, West Indies are in Ireland for a T20I series, with their first match washed out, while Nepal are competing in a T20I tri-series in Scotland alongside the Netherlands. The Sharjah series promises exciting cricket and a chance for Nepal to gain valuable experience against a two-time T20 World Cup champion.
Stay tuned for updates as these teams write a new chapter in cricket history!
