Rauf Swaps Melbourne for Adelaide as Strikers Land Marquee Pace Signing
Adelaide: Haris Rauf has signed with the Adelaide Strikers for the upcoming Big Bash League season, joining Ben Stokes and Mark Chapman as overseas players available for the entire tournament.
Rauf arrives from Melbourne Stars, where he spent five seasons and became one of the competition’s most potent fast bowlers. Last season he finished as the BBL’s leading wicket-taker with 20 wickets in 11 innings. Across 33 appearances for the Stars since 2019-20, he claimed 56 wickets.

Strikers coach Tim Paine framed the signing as a statement of intent, both in terms of Rauf’s individual quality and the club’s broader recruitment strategy.
“Haris is a proven match-winner who has performed at the highest level in international cricket and franchise competitions around the world,” Paine said. “Strikers fans are going to love watching him steam in at Adelaide Oval. He’s one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket and has the ability to change a game in an instant”.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Haris to Adelaide for the entire tournament. He’s an exciting player, a fierce competitor and someone who will bring plenty of energy to our group. Having all of our international players available for the entire tournament was a key priority throughout our off-season and we believe it will be a significant advantage for our side.”
A Venue He Knows Well
Adelaide Oval holds pleasant memories for Rauf. In his only ODI at the ground, he took 5 for 29 against Australia in November 2024, setting up a nine-wicket win for Pakistan. His sole T20I appearance there, during the 2022 World Cup, yielded 1 for 21 against Bangladesh in a five-wicket victory.
The Strikers have won the BBL title once, in 2017-18. Last season they finished sixth and missed the playoffs. The addition of Rauf, alongside Stokes and Chapman on full-season deals, represents a concerted effort to address that shortfall.
The BBL season begins in December. Adelaide’s opening fixture is against Sydney Thunder on December 16 in Canberra.
