The Vitalys Mines hide plenty of secrets, but none confuse players more than the Shimmering Water Pool. When you first discover it, the pool only displays a “???” prompt and gives you no clue about what to do.
The truth is that this pool is part of the long-running Blue Potato mystery. To activate it, you must gather a set of rare blue items scattered across different realms.
This guide explains exactly what the Shimmering Pool is, which items it needs, how to find each one, and what reward you unlock after filling it.
What the Shimmering Water Pool Does in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
The Shimmering Water Pool sits deep inside the Vitalys Mines. When you interact with it, you will see five empty slots. These slots must be filled with specific items, all of which are blue and tied to invisible maze puzzles across various locations.
The Blue Potato is the first piece of the puzzle. Once you have it, you can begin searching for the remaining blue items that the pool requires. When all five are placed inside the pool, a special potion will form.
How to use the Shimmering Water Pool in Disney Dreamlight Valley?
1. The Five Required Blue Items
The pool accepts five items: the Blue Potato and four additional blue collectibles. Once all five are gathered, the pool reacts and creates the Brilliant Blue Potion.
2. Where to Place the Items
Return to the Vitalys Mines and interact with the Shimmering Pool. Insert each blue item into its matching slot. When the final item is placed, the water shimmers and produces your reward.
How to Find Every Required Item for the Shimmering Pool?
1. How to Find the Blue Shell
Travel to the Moana Realm. Walk forward from the entry point, then turn right toward the two palm trees. Move between them and follow the right edge of the water. The path is blocked by invisible walls, but as long as you keep to the right and push forward, you will eventually reach a small island. The Blue Shell is resting in the sand on its far side.
2. How to Find the Blue Book
Enter the Mystical Cave on Dazzle Beach and descend to the lowest level. At the bottom, you’ll find a shallow pool and several stones. Walk straight over the rocks, then turn left toward a stone archway. Behind the arch, glowing in the corner, is the Blue Book.
3. How to Find the Blue Starfish
Use the boat near Skull Rock to travel to Ariel’s island. From your spawn point, move left and hug the shoreline. Continue along the water, turning when the invisible barrier allows it. After circling the island’s edge, you’ll spot the Blue Starfish lying near the shore.
4. How to Find the Blue Gem
Enter the Vitalys Mines from Sunlit Plateau. Turn right toward the waterfall and cross the bridge. Move past the cooking station and head deeper into the tunnels until you reach a fork. Take the path with the broken railway track.
Stop at the next fork just before the overturned minecart and purple mushrooms. Turn left and follow the track until it ends. Look for a huge Night Thorn connecting the broken track to a small ledge. Climb over it to reach a secluded area where the Blue Gem rests beside a minecart.
Once the Blue Potato, Blue Shell, Blue Book, Blue Starfish, and Blue Gem are all placed in the Shimmering Pool, a new item appears: the Brilliant Blue Potion. This potion is part of the larger potato puzzle storyline and is used later to craft the Rainbow Potion, which unlocks a special Rainbow Fox companion.
