You can get the upgrade option after the story brings you to the Evercare Clinic in Qinghe. The game has you do this as part of the main storyline after you escape Yi Dao and start looking for Aunt Han. The clinic is to the southeast of the Harvestfall Village.
The NPC you need to interact with is called Yao Yaoyao. She is the healer who gave you the Medicine Chest at the beginning of the game, and she is the only one who can upgrade it.
When you get to the clinic, it is a good idea to activate the nearby Courier Post so that you can return to that spot quickly after you collect more upgrade materials.

1. Talking to Yao Yaoyao
When you approach Yao Yaoyao, there is an option to speak with her about improving your Medicine Chest. She will display how many items you need to get to the next level in the game, and if you have accumulated enough to get an upgrade, you can confirm that you want to do so.
The game does not do the upgrades for you after you confirm it with Yao Yaoyao. You have to return to her after you collect the materials for the next level.

Every upgrade requires Medicinal Tales, a special resource used only for improving the Medicine Chest. Early upgrades cost very little, but higher ranks need more pages. You can submit several at once when you upgrade.

You earn Medicinal Tales from many activities across the world. Side quests, campaign missions, world bosses, dungeons, outposts, and general exploration all reward these pages. You gather them naturally as you play, but you’ll need a large amount—close to a hundred—to reach the maximum chest rank.
Whenever you collect enough pages for your next upgrade, the game may give you a small reminder when you open the map. This helps you keep your healing upgrades on track.
How Upgrading Changes Your Healing in Where Winds Meet?
1. More Charges
Each rank increases the number of healing uses in your quick slot. Early on you’ll go from one to two or three charges, and higher ranks can take you up to five. This makes long dungeons and boss fights much safer.
2. Stronger Healing
Your main healing item also becomes more effective as the chest improves. The increased recovery means you take fewer risks in combat and can survive heavy damage more easily.
If you ignore upgrades, you’ll end up facing strong enemies with weak healing, which makes the game feel far harder than it should. Visiting Yao Yaoyao regularly keeps your healing level in line with your character growth.
