Santner Sits Out RR Clash with Right Shoulder Niggle

Mumbai Indians’ Mitchell Santner opted out of the team’s match against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday due to a right shoulder niggle sustained while fielding in the previous game against Delhi Capitals.

The left-arm spinning all-rounder injured himself during the 14th over of Capitals’ innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. While attempting to save a boundary, Santner dived and hurt his non-bowling shoulder, subsequently not bowling in that match.

Confirming the development after MI’s 27-run loss to RR in Guwahati, head coach Mahela Jayawardene said, “Mitch, in the last game, had a little niggle when he came off. As a precaution, he wasn’t a hundred percent ready to play this game. Hopefully, he will be fit for our next game.”

Santner’s absence forced MI into three changes. With captain Hardik Pandya returning to the side allowing Trent Boult also to find a place, Corbin Bosch and Mayank Markande made way. Santner was replaced by AM Ghazanfar, who returned economical figures of 2-21 in two overs, the second-most economical spell for MI on a night when they conceded 150 for 3 in just 11 overs.

The loss marked Mumbai Indians‘ second successive defeat in three games this season. Jayawardene also confirmed that Will Jacks has yet to join the squad, though the team is hoping for his arrival soon.
