How to Respec in Nioh 3

Respec in Nioh 3

Experimenting with new builds is part of what makes Nioh 3 such an exciting game. One mission might require you to use heavy Strength weapons while another may give you access to fast Ninjutsu equipment or deadly ranged capabilities.

Fortunately, you never have to worry about keeping a bad build because as soon as you have reached the first area of the game after completing a certain number of side quests, you can completely reset all of your stats and all of your skills at any time… FOR FREE!!

That’s right – there will be no item usage, no currency exchanged, and no penalties for creating a new character. Consider that there are no limits to how many times you may rebuild your character to accommodate changes in build types based on the opponent, weapon selection, or if you desire just to experiment.

You unlock the ability to respec your stats after finishing the prologue and getting to the Warring States main map and from there you can use any Shrine.

Step by step

  1. Go to any Shrine and pray
  2. If you are at the Crucible, use a Bodhisattva Statue
  3. Choose level up
  4. Select the reset button by pressing L3 on the controller or pressing 3 on the keyboard
  5. All your Stats will get reset back to 0
  6. You can now spend your points as you see fit
  7. Confirm your Selection.

You can do this over and over again.

Important things to remember

  • No Amrita cost
  • No cooldown
  • Unlimited attempts

However, permanent bonuses gained outside leveling cannot be reset. For example, starting bonuses from your initial Kusanagi choice stay forever.

While stats improve your abilities, skills determine your fighting methods. These skills can be learned through the use of Samurai and Ninja locks which can be discovered around the world. You can change your skills at any time by following the steps below:

  1. Open the settings menu
  2. Go to Acquire Martials / Ninjutsu
  3. Select any skill branch
  4. Press Reset
  5. Choose a Reset Type

You will see two options:

  • Reset current category only
  • Reset entire Samurai or Ninja tree

To remove all Samurai and Ninja character skills, you will need to reset their respective trees one at a time. After that, all Samurai Points and Ninja Points are refunded and ready to spend again.

Because it is free, respeccing becomes part of normal gameplay rather than a last resort.

  • Switching weapon types
  • Hitting a difficult boss
  • Testing a new build idea
  • Adjusting for co-op or ranged combat
  • Optimizing late game damage

There is also no penalty for doing it mid-progression, so you can tailor your build for specific encounters and then switch back afterward.

More so than many other action RPG titles, Nioh 3 is set up to encourage experimentation. Stat and skill resets are instant and indefinite meaning you can view your character build as changeable rather than fixed. If anything in your build seems weak, mix things up. The game is structured to allow this freedom.
