Frostbite is a new danger added with the Cold Snap update in ARC Raiders. It turns the weather into a real threat. If you stay outside too long on snowy maps, the cold will slowly drain your health. To survive these runs, you need to understand how frostbite works and how to counter it while looting and fighting.
What Is Frostbite in Arc Raiders
These maps are Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport, and The Blue Gate. If you are in the open snow for too long, frost forms over your screen, and your Raider loses steadier health due to damage from the frost infliction.
At first, the damage is slow, but it does become dangerous if you ignore it or are fighting while already frostbitten. Frostbite does not kill the player instantly.
However, it puts you in a very disadvantaged position if you keep being exposed.
How Frostbite Triggers in Arc Raiders
Frostbite is accumulating from the moment you go out and the snow is falling on you. After around one and a half to two minutes of complete exposure, the damage starts. As long as it is active, you lose health every second until you get to a place that is not exposed.
The frozen ground and the slippery parts make it more difficult to move which increases the risk during a fight or while trying to escape.
How to Heal Frostbite in Arc Raiders
The main way to stop frostbite is simple. You need to get under a roof. Any structure with overhead cover works, even if the sides are open. Small depots, parking roofs, and partially open buildings are enough.
Once inside, the frostbite damage stops immediately. The visual frost effect fades after a short time, giving you a fresh window before the cold becomes dangerous again.
Healing to Stay Alive
Frostbite cannot be healed by healing items; however, they will allow you to survive during your movement to the safe place. Bandages, Vita Shots, and Vita Spray help to control the health loss. You will use healing items at a higher rate than normal, so bring extra supplies for the Cold Snap runs.
Healing through augments is also a good method to use. They will allow you to get health back when you reach the safe place, thus your consumables will last longer.
Emergency Trick: Fire
Fire can be used as a last resort if you are far away from shelter. Frostbite will be gone as soon as you enter the fire created by a Blaze Grenade, Fireball Burner, or a similar source.
You will suffer burn damage, so it is dangerous. Do not attempt this unless you have enough shield and healing to heal up afterwards.
This technique will give you a very limited time frame to get to the shelter when the options of survival are very few.
Smart Movement and Positioning
Cold Snap maps punish slow play in open areas. Plan your route around buildings and roofs. Move from cover to cover instead of crossing long open spaces. Avoid waiting outside during fights, as frostbite and combat damage together can you down very fast.
Listen to your Raider. Shivering sounds mean frostbite is building. A sigh of relief tells you that you are safe under cover.
