As I mentioned earlier, getting a pet in Crimson Desert requires you to build trust. Every dog or cat starts at zero, and you have to bring that trust up to 100 before the animal can join you.

There are two main ways to increase it. You can pet the animal or feed it the right food. That is basically the whole process. Once you hit the threshold, you claim the animal and it moves into your Pet section.

Dogs can be generally unlocked faster if you want a pet. Cats still work fine, but they are more limited because they only like certain foods. This works better since dogs can eat higher-value meat and gain trust much faster.

The fastest way to build trust with pets in Crimson Desert

Petting is the most basic way to gain trust, but it is fairly slow. Dogs can be petted directly, while cats need to be picked up first. You can pet an animal up to five times daily, which adds up to +25 trust. It helps, but on its own it feels slow.

Feeding is where you actually start gaining trust fast. Just drop food from your inventory and the animal will walk over and eat it. This gives much larger trust gains depending what you feed it.

Different foods give different trust values:

AnimalFood TypeTrust Gain
DogTough Meat+10
DogFine Meat+35
CatBird Meat+10
CatFish+10
CatMilk+10

You can feed an animal three times per day, which adds up quickly when combined with petting. From testing this myself, Fine Meat makes a big difference since it boosts trust much faster than standard food.

If you combine both methods, you can reach 100 trust pretty quickly. A well-fed dog can be claimed in one day, while cats usually take a bit longer.

Once you reach that point, use the interaction prompt and select Claim. The pet moves to your Pet tab, where you can summon it anytime. You can own up to 30 pets, but only one stays active at a time, and it will automatically loot enemy drops.

Once you have a pet, you can also customize how it looks with different outfits.

You can buy pet outfits from specific shops around the map. The most common place is the vendor in Pororim Village, where the Shai children are located.

There is also another shop located in the southeastern part of Demeniss. Both locations sell pet items like hats, body armor, and full outfits.
