The Overseer of Vault 76 explored Appalachia before you ever stepped outside the vault. She left behind 18 holotape logs that explain what happened after Reclamation Day. If you want the full story, you must find every one of them. Some are easy, while others require quests, access cards, or even an active nuclear blast.
This guide explains where each Overseer log is located and what you need to do to collect it, using clear directions and simple language.
Fallout 76: Full Overseer Log Locations
Overseer Log 1 – The Wayward
You can collect this log from the Duchess at The Wayward directly, and it is an important event that is not to be missed as it begins the story of the Overseer. The Wayward is located at the junction of Routes 86 and 88 adjacent to the Overseer’s Camp.
Overseer Log 2 – Flatwoods Church
Now, just travel to Flatwoods and enter the church of the Responders. You’ll find the holotape just inside the entrance on the right. This log is an early one and very accessible during the course of the beginner quests.
Overseer Log 3 – Morgantown Airport
Morgantown Airport is the place to go and enter the terminal. From there, first, go to the basement and loot a keycard from a dead body. After getting it, move back upstairs to the second floor where the log is located.
Overseer Log 4 – Charleston Fire Department
The log is located in the reception area of the Charleston Fire Department. The building is situated on the boundary of the Forest region and is usually traveled to during the Responders quests.
Overseer Log 5 – Top of the World
Inside the dome structure at Top of the World, look right in front of the elevator doors. You will also hear Rose from nearby, which makes it easier to confirm that you are at the right spot.
Overseer Log 6 – Abbie’s Bunker
Travel to Abbie’s Bunker in the Mire region. The holotape is placed by the door before you enter the bunker. This log ties into the Free States storyline.
Overseer Log 7 – Camp Venture
Enter Camp Venture in the Mire. You must unlock a terminal or pick a locked door to reach this log. The terminal password is located in the basement of one of the smaller buildings outside the camp.
Overseer Log 8 – Fort Defiance (Third Floor)
This log is found on the third floor of Fort Defiance. Elevator access is required, which means you must complete the “Recruitment Blues” quest before you can reach it.
Overseer Log 9 – Camp McClintock
Inside Camp McClintock, head to the main building near the lake. Following the “Recruitment Blues” quest naturally leads you here.
Overseer Log 10 – Charleston Capitol Building (DMV)
Enter the Charleston Capitol Building and head into the DMV section. The log is on the left side as you enter the area. This location is also tied to “Recruitment Blues.”
Overseer Log 11 – Fort Defiance (Fourth Floor)
After completing “Recruitment Blues,” you receive an ID card. Use it to access the fourth floor of Fort Defiance. The log is located in front of the elevator doors.
Overseer Log 12 – Grafton Mayor’s Office
Go to Grafton in the Toxic Valley. The log sits next to the red Grafton Mayor AI terminal inside the Mayor’s office, near the Trading Post and Voting Building intersection.
Overseer Log 13 – Site Alpha Elevator Shack
North of the Radio Array and west of Sugar Grove, locate the small shack that contains the Site Alpha elevator. One log is inside this shack.
Overseer Log 14 – Site Bravo Elevator
This log is near the Site Bravo elevator. It is located south of the Palace of the Winding Path and west of the Monongah Power Substation.
Overseer Log 15 – Site Charlie (R&G Processing Services)
Head to R&G Processing Services near Spruce Knob in the Savage Divide. The log is positioned near the Site Charlie elevator at the rail intersection.
Overseer Log 16 – Site Alpha (Nuke Required)
This log only appears after a nuke has been launched on Site Alpha. While the blast zone is active, enter Site Alpha and look for the log on a metal shelf opposite the elevator. If no nuke is active, the log will not spawn.
Overseer Log 17 – Mountainside Bed & Breakfast
North of Site Charlie, find the bright yellow Mountainside Bed & Breakfast. The log rests on a table outside the building.
Overseer Log 18 – Vault 76
This log is inside Vault 76. If you missed it before leaving the vault, you can still obtain it later by interacting with Pennington outside the vault entrance.
Many Overseer logs are easier to collect if you follow faction quests instead of hunting them early. The nuke-dependent log is the most commonly missed, so plan ahead when a launch occurs.
Collecting all 18 logs gives you the full Overseer narrative and a deeper understanding of Appalachia’s collapse.
