Ashes of Creation Complete Fishing Guide – How to Fish

How to Fish in Ashes of Creation

Fishing in Ashes of Creation is a simple gathering skill that lets you earn resources, make gold, and level your artisan path. You do not need fast reflexes or perfect timing to fish. Once you understand how the system works, you can fish while playing normally or even while staying idle for a while.

This guide explains exactly how fishing works, how to start, and what you can do with the fish you catch.

How to Fish in Ashes of Creation

Getting Your Fishing Rod

You obtain a standard fishing rod in the early stages of the game after finishing the beginner quests in a starting town. This rod will be automatically included in your artisan tools set.

You are not required to purchase bait or any special items to start fishing in the current version of the game. Before you go fishing, check your inventory for space because fishing will not continue if your bag is full.

Setting Up Fishing on Your Action Bar

Fishing is not similar to chopping trees or mining ore. You cannot just go to water and press a harvest key. First, you have to assign the fishing skill.

Open your skill menu and navigate to the artisan section. Locate the fishing skill and transfer it to your action bar. You are now able to activate fishing whenever you are near water.

Starting to Fish

Visit a lake, river, or the beach and position yourself near the water. Activate the fishing skill from your action bar. Your character will automatically take out the rod and throw the line. There is no mini-game based on timing for basic fishing.

You just wait while your character is fishing. After a while, the game decides if you get a fish or a failed attempt.

AFK Fishing Explained

Basic fishing works even if you step away from the keyboard. Your character will continue to fish until you stop the action or your inventory fills up. This makes fishing a good option when you want steady resources without active play. You should still check back often, as standing idle too long can disconnect you from the server.

Sport Fishing and Risk

Ashes of Creation also includes sport fishing, which is more active and more rewarding. This type of fishing happens in specific areas where fish activity is visible on the water. Sport fishing can take place in safer inland waters or in open seas where PvP is enabled. Open-sea fishing is risky because other players can attack you, but it offers better rewards.

Sport fishing requires extra preparation. You need a boat, and for best results, you also need chum and optional lures. When fishing this way, you must react to on-screen prompts to control the rod and reel in the fish. This makes sport fishing more involved than AFK fishing.

Using Boats and Chum

To sport fish, you must use a boat such as a rowboat or a larger sea vessel. You throw chum into the water to attract fish. When fish gather and the water starts to move, you cast your line into that spot. This system rewards players who plan ahead and watch their surroundings carefully.

Fishing Progression and Better Rods

Your fishing skill goes up the more you fish. With higher skill levels come better fishing rods which have higher durability and faster catch rates.

To wield the strong rods, you need to attain the necessary fishing level and upgrade your artisan certificate via the specific NPC. Moreover, better rods will become more significant as the future updates bring in advanced fish and recipes.

What to Do With Fish

Fish are raw materials for crafting. They can be made into food, incorporated into the artisan recipes, or resold to the town for tasks. Some fish are direct gold sellers while others are more suited for crafting or bartering in the future. When it comes to the possession of high-value catches, especially from the perilous fishing zones, safe transportation of fish becomes a very important factor.

Important Things to Remember

The fishing activity is still under development, therefore, the systems might change in the course of time. At present, it is the most accessible gathering skill to master. It does not require one to have elaborate equipment to start, and one can fish at one’s own speed. The system now offers you both options, whether you prefer relaxed AFK progress or risky high-value sport fishing.
