Vijay Shankar Bids Goodbye to Domestic Cricket and IPL
Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has decided to retire from domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). He shared the news on his Instagram account with a heartfelt post.

“I have decided to retire from playing domestic cricket and IPL to pursue new opportunities and play more cricket,” Vijay wrote.
Vijay started his journey with Tamil Nadu back in 2012 and played for his home state for 13 years. He later moved to Tripura for the 2025-26 season. Over his career, he played 77 first-class matches, scoring 4253 runs and taking 43 wickets. He also featured in 112 List A games and 159 T20s.
In the IPL, Vijay began with Chennai Super Kings in 2013. He later played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans. His best season with the bat came in 2023 when he scored 301 runs at a strike rate of 160.10. He returned to CSK in 2025 but did not find any buyers in the next auction.
Vijay also represented India in 12 ODIs and 9 T20Is between 2018 and 2019. He was part of India’s squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup. One of his most memorable moments came when he dismissed Imam Ul Haq with his very first ball in the tournament.
In his retirement note, Vijay thanked all his coaches and teammates. He also spoke about the hate and negativity he faced online. “I have faced unreal hate and negativity. Let me take this opportunity to let you know that I chose to ignore and move forward,” he wrote.
He ended with a powerful message: “Cricket has taught me life. Cricket is my life.”
