This will be the 47-year-old’s first head coach role. Hopes has worked as an assistant coach for many years, mostly as a bowling coach for different teams in franchise cricket. Right now, he is the bowling coach for Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL season.
Hopes will now lead one of the most successful teams in BBL history. The Sixers have won the title three times and finished as runners-up many times, including in the last season. The team let go of Greg Shipperd as head coach after that season.
“I’m incredibly honoured to join the Sydney Sixers, a club with a proud history and a strong identity built on consistency, competitiveness and connection with its fans,” Hopes said after his appointment. “I’m excited to work with a talented playing group and contribute to the next phase of the Sixers’ success in the BBL.”
As a player, Hopes played 84 ODIs and 12 T20Is for Australia. His last international match was in 2010.
