Suryakumar Yadav Silences Doubters With Fiery 72 Just Days After Captaincy Snub
Sometimes, the bat does all the talking. And Suryakumar Yadav made sure his message was loud and clear.
Just a few days after being removed as India’s T20I captain, the 35-year-old stepped onto the field and played an unbeaten knock of 72 runs. He was playing for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East in the Mumbai T20 League. His team was chasing 153 runs, and he made sure they got there with four overs to spare. They won by six wickets.

This was not a one-off. In his previous game, he smashed 48 runs off just 24 balls for the same team. That came against SoBo Mumbai Falcons. He is clearly in good touch, even if the national selectors think otherwise.
The BCCI decided to replace Suryakumar with Shreyas Iyer as T20I captain. Selectors pointed to a dip in form and said they were looking at the long-term plan for the 2028 World Cup. The decision surprised many fans, but the board stood by it.
Soon after the news, some fans noticed that Suryakumar had briefly unfollowed Mumbai Indians on social media. This led to a lot of chatter online. But nothing has been confirmed, and it could just be a coincidence or a technical glitch.
On the night of his 72-run knock, Suryakumar shared Player of the Match honours with teammate Sylvester D’Souza, who took five wickets. It was a complete team performance, but Suryakumar’s innings stole the show.
Fans are now calling it a strong reply to those who doubted him. Whether or not he wins back his place in the national T20I setup, one thing is clear, Suryakumar Yadav is not done yet.
