Shree Charani Becomes World No.1: India’s New Spin Sensation Tops ICC Rankings
Shree Charani, the left-arm spinner from Yeramala Palli near Kadapa, has climbed to the No.1 spot in the ICC Women’s T20I bowling rankings. She now leads with 753 rating points. And her rise has been nothing short of spectacular.

Charani has been the star of India’s bowling attack in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup in England. She has taken 10 wickets in just three matches at an astonishing average of 6.40. Her best figures came against Netherlands, where she picked up 4 for 19. The batters simply had no answer to her left-arm spin.
Charani is the first woman from YSR Kadapa district to play for India. It has been a dream run for her since her T20I debut in June 2025, when she returned impressive figures of 4 for 12 against England. She was also named Player of the Tournament in her very first series.
Now, she has joined an elite club. She is only the second Indian — after Deepti Sharma — to reach the No.1 spot in the T20I bowling rankings.
Charani’s rise has been rapid. She leapfrogged England’s Linsey Smith and Charlie Dean during her dominant World Cup performances. With India chasing a semi-final spot, her form could not have come at a better time.
A small-town girl with big dreams is now the best in the world. And if her current form continues, she is not stopping anytime soon.
