Sachin Tendulkar Proposes Three Major T20 Rule Changes to Restore Balance

Speaking ahead of the Gujarat Titans vs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash in Ahmedabad, Tendulkar outlined his vision for a more equitable format. He pointed to escalating run totals, citing RCB’s 254 for 5 in Qualifier 1 as evidence that the modern T20 game is increasingly sidelining bowlers and all-rounders.

Tendulkar’s Three Proposals-

1. Scrap the Impact Player Rule– Introduced in IPL 2023, the rule has allowed teams to deepen their batting lineups significantly. Tendulkar argues its removal would restore strategic balance.

2. Introduce a Captain-Chosen Bowling Powerplay– After the mandatory first four overs of fielding restrictions, Tendulkar suggests allowing captains to choose an additional Powerplay of their own later in the innings, offering more tactical flexibility to bowling sides.

3. Allow One Bowler Five Overs– Currently, no bowler can bowl more than four overs in a T20 innings. Tendulkar proposes permitting one strike bowler per team to bowl five overs, recognizing exceptional bowling performances and giving captains a genuine attacking weapon.

The proposals have received widespread backing from fans, many of whom echoed similar concerns previously raised by India captain Rohit Sharma. However, some expressed worries about potential bowler fatigue particularly for fast bowlers who might be asked to bowl an extra over.
