Mohammed Shami Hits Back at Agarkar Over Team India Snub, Questions “No Updates” Comment

Mohammed Shami

In a surprising and candid reaction, senior Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has expressed strong disappointment after being overlooked for national selection, directly challenging chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s recent remarks.

The friction became public when Agarkar, during a media interaction, stated that the selection committee had “no updates on Shami.” This comment appears to have deeply upset the veteran fast bowler.

Setting the record straight, Shami pointed to his recent on-field performances as proof of his fitness and form. “I played CT2025, IPL2025, Duleep Trophy & I am in good touch,” Shami stated, clearly frustrated by the implication that his condition was unknown to the selectors.

When asked about Agarkar’s “no updates” statement, Shami offered a sharp and telling response, shifting the onus of communication back onto the selection panel. “If you want an update then you have to ask for it, it is not my job to give an update if no one asks,” the cricketer replied.

This public exchange highlights a significant communication gap between the national selectors and one of India’s most proven match-winners, raising questions about the transparency of the selection process just as the new team management under Gautam Gambhir takes charge.
