India’s Squad For Australia Tour Announced: Shubman Gill To Lead ODI Side, Suryakumar Yadav Captains T20Is
The Senior Men’s Selection Committee has unveiled the Indian squads for the much-anticipated bilateral series against Australia, scheduled for October-November 2025. The tour will feature three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), marking a crucial assignment for the team ahead of the upcoming global events.
In a significant move, top-order batter Shubman Gill has been named the captain of the ODI squad, signalling a potential transition in leadership. The experienced trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul also finds a place in the 50-over side, ensuring a blend of youth and experience. All-rounder Shreyas Iyer will serve as the vice-captain for the ODIs.
The T20I squad will be led by the dynamic Suryakumar Yadav. Exciting young talents who impressed in recent domestic and A-series contests, like Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Tilak Varma, have been included. The return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah to the T20I setup adds significant firepower to the bowling attack.
Notable Selections and Omissions
- The inclusion of Nitish Kumar Reddy in both squads highlights the selectors’ faith in the young all-rounder after his consistent performances.
- Wicket-keeper Sanju Samson finds a spot in the T20I squad, while Dhruv Jurel is part of the ODI team.
