India-Pakistan Legends Semi-Final Called Off; Pakistan Progresses to WCL Final Amid Rising Tensions

WCL 2025 Semi-Final Ind vs Pakistan

In a dramatic turn of events, the much-anticipated World Championship of Legends (WCL) semi-final between India and Pakistan, scheduled for July 31 in Birmingham, has been cancelled following the Indian team’s refusal to compete against their rivals. Tournament organizers have awarded Pakistan a walkover into the final.

Members of India’s squad, including prominent figures like Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, and Harbhajan Singh, stood firm in their decision, citing both the presence of Shahid Afridi on the Pakistan team and underlying geopolitical tensions. Shikhar Dhawan has repeatedly expressed on social media his unwillingness to play against Pakistan, and the team’s stance remained unchanged through the league and knockout stages.

The cancellation comes at a time of heightened anti-Pakistan sentiment in India, fueled by recent national security concerns and public criticism of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s willingness to participate in tournaments alongside Pakistan. This week, major event sponsor EaseMyTrip also withdrew its support from any WCL match involving Pakistan, reiterating its commitment only to Team India.

With this development, Pakistan advances directly to the WCL final, while cricket fans worldwide are left to reflect on the growing divide overshadowing the sport. Meanwhile, the remaining semi-final between South Africa and Australia will go ahead as scheduled.
