‘If I have to constantly prove myself, I’m not in that space’ – Kohli on 2027 World Cup
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has opened up about his dream of playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup. But he has made one thing very clear. He does not want to be in a place where he has to keep proving himself again and again.
Kohli is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2026. He has already retired from T20Is and Tests. Right now, he only plays ODIs for India and the IPL.
‘I want to play for India’ – Kohli
Speaking on the RCB podcast, Kohli said that people keep asking him if he wants to play the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. His answer was simple.
“Why would I leave my home, bring all my stuff here, and not want to play? Of course, if I am playing, I want to play for India. I want to be part of a World Cup,” Kohli said.

But he added that the value has to be clear. He believes that if he can add value to the team and the environment feels the same way, he will be there.
Virat Kohli said he works very hard for every match. He prepares as if every ball could be the last of his career. He is ready to run for 40 overs without any complaint.
“After operating like this, if I am in a place where I still have to prove my worth, then that place is not meant for me,” he said.
He added that he is very clear in his head about this. He does not play to prove anything to anyone anymore. He plays because he loves the game.
Even though Kohli plays less cricket now, he has not lost his touch. Recently, he had a great run in ODIs. He scored three centuries and three fifties in just seven matches.
If everything works out, Kohli could play his fifth ODI World Cup in 2027. That would be a huge achievement for any player.
For now, fans can take heart from his words. He wants to play. He is ready to work hard. But he also wants respect and clarity about his place in the team.
