ICC Sanctions Star Pakistan Batter for On-Field Outburst in Final
A key member of Pakistan’s recent Tri-Series triumph has been penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for an incident during the tournament’s final. Opener Fakhar Zaman has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
The charge stems from Zaman showing dissent at an umpire’s decision after his dismissal during the high-stakes final against Sri Lanka. The left-hander was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the code following a prolonged argument with the on-field officials in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings.
Match referee Reon King imposed the sanction, which also includes one demerit point on Zaman’s previously clean disciplinary record over the last 24 months. The player admitted the offence and accepted the penalty.
The sanction comes despite Pakistan’s successful campaign, where they lifted the trophy with a six-wicket victory in the same match.
