Hobart Hurricanes Captain Nathan Ellis Ruled Out of BBL Finals With Hamstring Injury

The Hobart Hurricanes have suffered a major blow ahead of their BBL finals campaign, with captain Nathan Ellis ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

Ellis, who had already missed the Hurricanes’ Knockout match against the Melbourne Stars earlier this week, had travelled to Sydney in the hope of featuring in Friday’s Challenger clash against the Sydney Sixers. However, the 31-year-old pace bowler was withdrawn from the squad just hours before the match and has been replaced by batter Charlie Wakim.

In an official statement, the Hurricanes confirmed, “Ellis, who missed the Knockout on Wednesday night, was aiming to return for the final two matches of the BBL|15 finals but was unfortunately unable to overcome the injury.”

Ben McDermott will continue to lead the side in Ellis’s absence, having captained the team in their previous win. The Hurricanes are also keeping a close eye on the fitness of Chris Jordan, who was limited to batting only in the last match due to an ankle issue.

Despite the BBL setback, Ellis who is part of Australia’s T20 World Cup squad—is expected to recover in time for the global tournament next month, according to Cricket Australia.
