Gaud Fined for Send-Off as Pakistan Penalised for Slow Over-Rate

India quick Kranti Gaud has been fined 10 per cent of her match fees and handed one demerit point for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

The charge stemmed from Article 2.5, covering language, actions or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal. Gaud accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Supriya Rani Das, meaning no formal hearing was required. It is her first offence in a 24-month period.

The incident unfolded in the opening over of Sri Lanka’s chase. Imesha Dulani, facing the first ball, collected a boundary with a lap shot off Kranti Gaud. Three balls later she attempted the same stroke and was dismissed. Gaud, visibly pumped up, gave the batter a send-off by gesturing towards the pavilion.

The sanction carries a single demerit point, a relatively minor penalty that reflects the Level 1 nature of the offence. Gaud’s acceptance of the charge brought the matter to a close without further proceedings.

Pakistan Docked for Over-Rate

Separately, Pakistan were fined five per cent of their match fees for a slow over-rate in their semi-final against Sri Lanka. Chasing 131, Sri Lanka reached the target in 18.4 overs. Pakistan were ruled to be one over short of the required rate once time allowances were taken into account.

Captain Fatima Sana accepted the sanction after fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan levelled the charge. The penalty adds a further layer of disappointment to Pakistan’s campaign, which ended at the semi-final stage.
