England’s Pace Crisis Deepens: Gus Atkinson Ruled Out of Sydney Ashes Test

Gus Atkinson Ruled Out of Sydney Ashes Test

England’s fast-bowling resources have been dealt another significant blow with the confirmation that seamer Gus Atkinson will miss the fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney due to a left hamstring injury.

Atkinson sustained the injury on the second morning of the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. After bowling five consecutive overs, he left the field and did not return to bowl or take the field again for the remainder of the match.

Scans have since confirmed the injury, ruling him out of the series finale at the SCG, which begins on January 4. England have opted not to call up a replacement for the Sydney Test.

This marks the third major injury to England’s pace attack this series. Express bowler Mark Wood was ruled out after the Brisbane Test with a knee injury, and Jofra Archer was forced to return home after the Adelaide Test with a left-side strain. The attrition rate leaves England’s bowling unit severely depleted as they head to Sydney, where they will aim to level the series after a morale-boosting victory in Melbourne.
